Für Klimagerechtigkeit, gegen neue Tagebaue und CCS!

Für Samstag, 13. August 2011, rufen Klimaaktivist*innen und Umweltgruppen zu einer Demonstration in Cottbus auf. Sie fordern Klimagerechtigkeit und lehnen neue Tagebaue und CCS* ab. Die Demonstration ist Bestandteil des Klimacamps, das vom 07. bis 14. August bei Cottbus stattfindet (www.lausitzcamp.info).
Hinweis: Die Demonstration ist mit zahlreichen Motiven für die Bildberichterstattung geeignet.
Durch die Demonstration soll der überregionale und globale Zusammenhang der klimaschädlichen Braunkohleverstromung verdeutlicht werden. Die Braunkohleverstromung führt zu großen ökologischen und sozialen Verwerfungen, in den Abbaugebieten, aber mittelbar auch in weit entfernten Regionen. So ist die CCS-Technologie, die Braunkohle klimafreundlicher machen soll, hoch riskant. Betroffen wären vor allem Menschen in den potenziellen Verpressungsgebieten Ostbrandenburgs. Eine Kontamination des Grundwassers wäre aber z.B. bis nach Berlin möglich.
„Wir betonen die Verknüpfung zwischen lokaler Energieproduktion und ihren globalen Auswirkungen. Wir sind hier in einem der größten Braunkohlereviere der Bundesrepublik. Unsere Kohle, unsere Energie richtet aber nicht nur hier, sondern auch ganz woanders, immense Schäden an speziell in den afrikanischen und pazifischen Staaten. Die Folgen der globalen Erwärmung treffen zuerst die ärmeren Länder. Dramatisches Beispiel dafür ist die anhaltende Dürrekatastrophe am Horn von Afrika,“ erklärt Daniel Häfner von Robin Wood Cottbus.
Mit der Demonstration werden die Forderungen des internationalen Netzwerks „Climate Justice Now“ für Klimagerechtigkeit unterstützt:
- Fossile Energieträger wie Kohle und Öl im Boden lassen!
- Die Kontrolle über die natürlichen Ressourcen an die Menschen und die Gesellschaft zurückgeben und die Rechte der indigenen Bevölkerungen achten!
Lokale, nachhaltige Landwirtschaft betreiben! - Die Industriestaaten haben eine ökologische Schuld gegenüber den Menschen in nichtindustrialisierten Staaten und sollen diese tilgen!
- Keine falschen,marktbasierten Lösungen nutzen, sondern unsere Lebens- und Produktionsweise ändern
Die Demonstration beginnt um 14.00 Uhr vor dem Hauptbahnhof in Cottbus. Bei der Abschlusskundgebung gegen 15.30 Uhr am Stadthallen Vorplatz werden Dorota Schewior (polnische Biobäuerin und Anti-Kohle-Aktivistin), Pfarrer Matthias Berndt (Gemeinde Atterwasch), Hardy Feldmann (Bürgerinitiative gegen CO2-Endlager, Neutrebbin) sowie Kristina Korte (gegenstrom berlin, Vorbereitungsgruppe Klimacamp) kurze Ansprachen halten.
Die Demonstration ist Bestandteil des Klima- und Energiecamps, welches vom 07. bis 14. August 2011 in Jänschwalde stattfindet (www.lausitzcamp.info).
Auf dem Camp werden zahlreiche Veranstaltungen, Trainings, Workshops sowie ein kulturelles Rahmenprogramm geboten.

Our Climate, not Your Business!
Saturday, 13th August 2011, a demonstration takes place at Cottbus/Germany. Climate activists and environmental organisations call for this demo to demand climate justice and oppose new open cast mining areas and the misleading technology Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS).
This protest is part of the Climate Camp 2011, taking place near Cottbus between 7th and 14th of August (www.lausitzcamp.info).
This demonstration makes visible the regional and global links of lignite power plants. Lignite burning is coal abuse: it is heavily contributing to global warming. Firing power stations with lignite to generate electricity causes heavy ecological and social disruption both locally around Cottbus, where lignite mining takes place, and globally. CCS, presented by capital and politicians as rendering lignite burning climate friendly, is highly risky: affected would be locals in those areas where CCS is exercised in Northern/Eastern Germany. However, also cross-regional contamination of ground water is possible, e.g. befalling Berlin.
Climate Justice Now! This demonstration supports the demands of the international network for climate justice: The demonstration helps to expose the false solutions to the climate crisis promoted by governments — alongside financial institutions and multinational corporations – such as trade liberalisation, privatisation, forest carbon markets, agrofuels and carbon offsetting and CCS. Beyond climate talks, we will take this struggle on the ground and in the streets, to promote genuine solutions that include:
- leaving fossil fuels in the ground and investing instead in appropriate energy-efficiency and safe, clean and community-led renewable energy
- radically reducing wasteful consumption, first and foremost in the North, but also by Southern elites.
- huge financial transfers from North to South, based on the repayment of climate debts and subject to democratic control. The costs of adaptation and mitigation should be paid for by redirecting military budgets, innovative taxes and debt cancellation.
- rights-based resource conservation that enforces Indigenous land rights and promotes peoples’ sovereignty over energy, forests, land and water.
- sustainable family farming and fishing, and peoples’ food sovereignty.
This demonstration commences at 2pm at the central station of Cottbus. The concluding manifestation is scheduled for 3:30pm at “Stadthallen Vorplatz”.
